Discussion
I would like to know if anyone has gotten this to work. I have a Verizon XV6700 pda phone and I tried this and couldn't. If it IS indeed workable, can someone add more detailed instructions and maybe I can see what I did wrong.
What you can try is:
Make sure you create a folder on your storage card named "My Documents" and create a file in the root of your storage card "ignore_my_docs" without extension that is.
No, it doesn't work for me either. I am using Windows Mobile 5 though. It was worth a try. I guess I'll try Mighty Sync.
It does work, but only because it actually works different than stated.
The FileSyncPath points to the path from where ActiveSync syncs it's files on the PPC. It doesn't change your 'My Documents' path - beleive me I've tried! :-)
WM5 does not support the ignore_my_docs file.
Most likely the problem is that you soft-reset your device instead of turning it off and on after changes to the registry.
I also have an xv6700 with WM5 and I did get this to work with one exception. With this tweak it only syncs' one way from the desktop to the device. I modified some files on the device and it didn't make those changes to the same files on the desktop. I tried adding the filesync path to the desktop registry in the same place to no avail. It should also be noted that the path to my storage card on the xv6700 is \Storage Card (not \SD Card).
Anybody know how to get it to sync both ways?
I have an XDA2 (flashed to WM2005 via buzzdev.net) and the registry patch works, but in the same way as Jim (above) - sync is only from the PC to the device.
Is there another registry setting somewhere to ensure it sync's the other way I wonder?
Jeroen found a solution for moving the my documents folder, please follow this link to the tweak
Reply to original post. I tried this (WM5), didn't work. I added the string:
FileSyncPath Value: \SD Card\My Documents to the key you specified, and soft reset and rebooted with the power button. I'm wondering though, whether the word "bane" you typed should be part of the string. I didn't think so. But now that it didn't work, I'm wondering if that word was supposed to be part of the string,
By the way, it didn't work for me in either direction--not even desktop to device.
What about change to CF Card?
I just tried this on my Cingular 8125 (WM5)
Added the String name: FileSyncPath. I tried \SD Card\My Documents and \Storage Card\My Documents; however, I didnt changed the location of my documents.
One thing i did noticed is that by me adding the this string/value to the registry I no longer have the "check box" for FILES when selecting my Sync options thru MS ActiveSync.
Does anyone happens to know an alternate way to get this to work?
Thanks in advance!
I got this to work by having the string value of: \Storage Card\My Documents
I forgot to mention that you must first DELETE and/or RENAME your current My Documents folder or it will name your SD Card to "My Documents 2".
Didn't work for me too. Dell x50v WM05.
All you do is regedit the save values to \\Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures
My Photos...
Calls...
etc.

Hey Guys!
I got it working mint! I have the XV6700 and the internal memory is tiny for photos, videos, documents, etc. So I purchased a 512mb SD storage card. Since almost everything (Except software and system settings) are stored in the my documents folder it can easily eat your space up quickly.
So the objective is to move ONLY the my documents folder on to the SD card. However, you cannot just copy the folder and it will work; follow these simple steps.
1) Copy the "My Documents" directory and all of its contents in to the root folder of your /storage card.
2. Download a FREE Regedit utility.
3. In the regedit utility, click the top tier (my device) and click "Tools" then "Find", select all 3 options for keys, values and data. Search for the term "/my documents".
4. Simply go through each key (Approx. 25 of them) and insert the string "/Storage Card" before the "/my documents". The double slash seams to be important on Windows Mobile 5. It tells the o/s to go to the absolute root.
4. Save all changes, exit and reboot. You now have a Pocket PC with tons of storage.
WARNING: Do not attempt to move any windows, program directories or other memory resident objects. If you do this your Pocket PC will freeze and be slower then $@^# because the bus for the SD card is slower then the internal EEPROM.
You can also copy the fonts directory by copying "fonts" in to the root of the SD card and then doing a search for fonts in the regedit and same procedure /Storage Card
Sorry for the horrible english and spelling. I am in a rush out of here but just wanted to help you guys. Feel free to e-mail me your comments or questions smconetworks@hotmail.com
Good luck!

Good luck!
just put "..\storage card\my documents". Then it should work out just fine.
Anyone get this to work?
Is there supposed to be a double back slash ("\\") before "Storage Card"?
When I search the registry I only find 13 entries, not 25. Anyone else? I did a hard reset first, so that might be it?
worked for me.
HTC P3300 with WM5
as i got it in spanish i set the variable to:
\Tarjeta de almacenamiento\My Documents\
